Types of Competitions

Divers from the City of Sheffield Diving Club take part in the following competitions.

Regional Events

The ASA North East Region Grand Prix is held annually by the ASA North East Region Association and incorporates the Yorkshire Championships and the Northumberland and Durham Championships. The events are spread across three 'one day' competition days and a top club trophy is awarded to the club accumulating the highest points across all categories. There are three categories of competition: Skills, Age Group and Open (Junior Elite & Senior combined).

National Events

The National event definitions below are adapted from the 'ASA Competition Levels Explained' document (available to download left).

• GB/ASA National Championships / National Cup - The UK’s top divers compete at this level Nationally, for the opportunity to be selected for the Senior Grand Prix Circuit and major LEN and FINA events.

• ASA/GB Junior Elite Championships - The UK’s top Juniors dive at this level Nationally, for the opportunity to be selected for Junior International competitions.

• ASA National Age Group Championships - Aimed at divers who are capable of putting together a comprehensive list of dives but may not have the physical or phsychological attributes, comitment or desire to reach an elite junior level. This event is also aimed as a stepping stone for younger or less experienced divers looking to perform at Elite Junior level.

• ASA National Skills Finals - Aimed at divers taking the first step to competitive participation. To compete at this level, divers must be capable of completing level 6 of the ASA Diving Awards Scheme.
